About
Hello and welcome. Whether you are going through a painful time in your life, want to manage your mental well being, have relationship problems at home or at work or just need to talk things through, I can offer you the necessary help and support tailored specifically to you as an individual.
I work with adults only on an individual basis, treating people mainly suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship issues and bereavements but have worked with a range of mental illnesses. My style as a therapist is generally quite structured. I am directive but I also value providing space to talk freely. I teach various evidence based techniques which can help you manage in uncomfortable situations.
Life can throw all kinds of obstacles at us but it's how we manage them that determines our quality of life. As a therapist I will provide you with a space to talk confidentially and offer understanding and insight into your circumstances. Having more clarity over our situation and ourselves, empowers us to move forward with our lives and reach our potential.
I have a BSc in Forensic Psychology, an MSc in Psychological Research, and an MBACP certificate award which means I'm a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am also DBS checked and registered with the Information Commissioners Office (GDPR).
The type of therapy I do is Transactional Analysis which is a theory of personality. This was developed in the 60's by Psycho Analyst and MD Eric Berne, who studied under Sigmund Freud. TA is loosely based on Psycho Analysis, but was made with the intention of the therapist and client as being equal as opposed to the therapist being the authority and the client the subject. It looks at personality traits and types, past experiences (in particular with regards to upbringing), blind spot's in our awareness of self and others, in-depth analysis into social interactions and relationships. The intended outcome is to help you the client build on self awareness, spontaneity and intimacy (closeness with people). These are the pillars of which we can build a more authentic sense of self and have a deeper and more realistic understanding of other people and their intentions.
