About
Mental health is an important aspect of everyone’s life. I have over 15 years clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults, parents and families. I have worked as a psychotherapist in the NHS, schools, charity mental health organisations, and in private practice.
My experience includes work with clients who are struggling with a variety of difficulties such as:
depression, anxiety (panic, phobia), divorce/separation, identity challenges, trauma (acute trauma and developmental trauma), historical physical, emotional and sexual abuse, grief/bereavement, breakdown of family relationships, parenting/carer challenges (blended step family, adoption, foster care), bullying at school or work, low self-esteem, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self-harm, disordered eating, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), poor emotional regulation that can be a challenge for people who have been diagnosed with ADHD and ASD and the psychological and practical challenges of emigrating to a different country by choice and as a refugee.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University in the United States and a master’s in Psychological Therapies from the Tavistock & Portman Clinic/UEL in London UK. My extensive training has enabled me to learn a variety of psychological and developmental theories and therapeutic interventions such as attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, systemic/family interventions.
I think it takes a lot of courage to seek support. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space to think with individuals, parents, couples and families about their difficulties and their strengths and I support them to make the changes they want to make. These changes often include internal shifts in thoughts, feelings and behaviours, changes to communication style and relationship patterns and developing new ways to navigate and cope with the experiences of life. I work as an integrative therapist meaning that I incorporate strategies and interventions from a variety of theoretical perspectives.
I have worked with people from age 7 to 60 years old, from various racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds and with diverse identities with regards to gender, disability, and sexual orientation. Identity is both a concept and a process and it is complex and fluid. Our identity shapes how we see ourselves, how others see us and our identity influences our day to day experiences in the society in which we live. Identity is an important aspect of everyone’s mental health and well being and therefore it is important to be able to think and talk about it during therapy.
I offer individual therapy for children, adolescent and adults but I can also offer systemic work with couples, carers and families. For example, I have worked with couples seeking to change their relationship or end their relationship in a healthy way. Parenting is one of the most challenging responsibilities to navigate and I have worked extensively with single parents/carers, step-parents, foster carers, adoptive parents, biological parents and family members raising a relative’s chi
