"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am then I can change"
Carl Rogers. ( founder of person-centred therapy )

I am a fully qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor. I qualified in 2015.

A person-centred counsellor treats the client with dignity, compassion and respect.
I see the whole person of the client, I will be honest and have empathy ' feeling with' my client and sensing what it's like to be in "their shoes"
I value each person for the unique individual they are.

I have worked with people in different settings for 30 years.
I worked within social services for 20 years with adults with learning disabilities and mental health challenges.
I have also worked within Adult education.
I volunteered as a counsellor during my counselling training for 5 years.
I have extensive qualifications in holistic therapies and find this helpful within my counselling work as the mind and body connection is key to dealing with and managing anxiety.

I am a registered member of the BACP* and adhere to professional standards and also work within the ethical framework.

I provide one to one counselling to adults and young people aged 16 +.
I work online, telephone or face to face.

Sometimes in our life circumstances can lead us to difficult and emotional places and it can help to have someone to turn to that is impartial and will hear you and listen to what is important to you.

The ability to focus on how things are for you and really hear how you feel can be a unique, profound and helpful experience.

Counselling offers a safe space to talk about the things that matter to you, to open up at your own pace and experience a non-judgemental, confidential and honest therapeutic relationship.

Therapy involves talking about life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, and patterns of behaviour.

I often use 'parts' work where we look at the different parts of you and give each part a space to be heard and cared for.
For instance, there may be an anxious part or a depressed part. An angry part.

All these parts of you are welcome in the space and I will help you explore them to facilitate growth and change. The key to change is awareness of these parts and starting to have compassion for them.

My aim is to ensure when you take that step into counselling, which can be extremely difficult that you are met with warmth, genuineness and compassion.

Within my training, I spent much time and commitment looking at my own issues, patterns and behaviours. This is a huge part of the training.
If I am to sit with a client in their distress it is essential I have explored my own issues.
It's a continuous journey and I have welcomed it.
I welcome working with others to help them have a better quality of life .

I look forward to meeting you,
Mary
