Drama Therapy as a healing medium uses fiction, drama and play as a means for personal growth and self knowledge. The safe space created by the drama therapist allows the client's freedom to temporarily escape their everyday reality. Metaphors and symbols are used to create and remove boundaries and gain insights. By re-enacting scenarios and spontaneously exploring personal feelings, perceptions can be altered and wounds healed. Drama therapy is a non-judgemental experience that does not require any previous experience in the arts. It can involve storytelling and enactment, improvisation and role-play, movement, drama games, play, instruments and props, and verbal reflection. Drama therapy is not dependent on spoken language and can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves verbally.
